Yesterday, the Internet was abuzz after Asus posted on its Facebook page about an update that is on the horizon for the Transformer Prime. At the time, little was known about the update, other than it would bring with it “awesome new features”. Today, a post on the ASUS Italy Facebook page shed some light as to what these new features will be.
First up, the Transformer Prime will finally get its taste of Face Unlock — a stock feature of Ice Cream Sandwich and one that has not been available on the Prime as of yet. Additionally, a new lock screen notification control has been implemented. We’re not 100% sure what this means, as Asus did not divulge any further information about that feature, but it might just mean you can access your notification panel while the tablet is locked — another thing you can’t do at the current time.
Asus Vibe will be upgraded from version 1.0 to 2.0 with improved interface and more content. The Market, Google Books, Google Music and other apps will also be updated with the recently re-branded Google Play moniker.
The device’s camera will be able to receive updates via future firmware updates, thanks to a new upgrade path for the camera that Asus has implemented. Users will be able to support USB LAN connections with a new feature that will allow the use of a USB-to-Ethernet UX cable, and can switch between portrait and landscape when hooking the tablet up to a television via HDMI.
Asus is suggesting that the update will be available March 29th, though it might take some time for the update to spread globally. By my watch, it’s already the 29th in some parts of the world, so be sure to let us know if the new update has rolled in for your Transformer Prime.
