Samsung is reportedly planning to release a 5.9-inch smartphone later this year. Chances are that we are talking about Samsung Galaxy Note III here, but there has been no confirmation in this regard, although the timing and alleged specs of this phone match with what is being expected from Note 3.
Samsung Galaxy Note III is likely to be unveiled around August 2013, although company might push the launch a little sooner given the recent influx of competing phablets from LG, Huawei, ZTE and other manufacturers.
A Samsung official apparently told Korea Times that Samsung is working on a phablet with 5.9-inch OLED display and come with company’s in-house octa-core processor. There is no word on other features of the smartphone, but it is likely to be come with S-Pen digitizer and compatible apps.
“The firm (Samsung) is expected to see a rapid rise in its phablet business, which will help it maintain its lead over rivals, including Apple,” an Insider told Korea Times.
Samsung has already launched three phablets in the market – Note, Note II and the recent Galaxy Grand. Both Note and Note II have been successful, however we are yet to hear about the consumer response to Galaxy Grand. According to last known figures, Samsung has sold 10 million units of Note II since the debut in September last year.
