Again, we are the first ones to break this news for you, as for the other two smartphones Galaxy 3 and Galaxy 5 yesterday. We expect an official announcement early next week, but the device is already out on various online stores and is reaching retail stores slowly.

Talking about this Android 2.1 powered smartphone, it comes with a 3.7 inch SLCD display, powerful 1 Ghz Snapdragon processor, 576 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, 4 GB SD Card in the box with 32 GB total support. Other specifications include GPS, HSDPA connectivity, WI-FI, FM Radio, Li-Ion 1400 mAh battery and 5 MP Camera with LED Flash. It sports HTC’s very own Sense UI, which I won’t say is very great but it is real good. HTC has announced that Desire along with HTC Legend & Wildfire will get Android 2.2 update in September. So, Froyo goodness will follow soon after.

Press Release

New Delhi, India, 16 August, 2010: HTC Corporation, a global designer of smartphones, and TATA DOCOMO, the GSM brand of Tata Teleservices Limited, today announced a partnership to launch the ‘HTC Desire’ in India. The HTC Desire is the latest Android Smartphone that offers the enhanced HTC Sense experience to users.

HTC Desire delivers intense brilliance, sharp contrast and true colors on the expansive 3.7-inch AMOLED display. The 1-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor makes the phone incredibly responsive while the instinctive HTC Sense experience lets the user experience the HTC Desire with the greatest of ease. With one of the most advanced displays available on a phone today, HTC Desire is designed to enhance and maximise content, whether it is pictures and videos, browsing the Web or checking on friends’ status updates. Thanks to the latest Android 2.1, as well as the ultrafast processor, HTC Desire offers a wide range of live wallpapers for user choices.

“The HTC Desire underlines HTC’s leadership in offering cutting-edge technology and a superior mobility experience. Globally, one of HTC’s core strengths has been its innovation-packed converged 3G devices and the HTC Desire is yet another testament to our technological capabilities,” said Mr. Ajay Sharma, Country Head, HTC India. “HTC Sense on the new HTC Desire not only delivers one of the most dynamic and personalized user experiences possible, but also one of the easiest ways to interact and integrate social networks into your life.”

The HTC Desire comes with an exclusive offer for TATA DOCOMO users in India, wherein TATA DOCOMO Postpay subscribers will get free data download of 500 MB per month for 06 months. To avail this offer Tata DOCOMO customers will have to SMS ‘Android’ to 54321 from their HTC Desire handset.

“TATA DOCOMO is a young brand that has rolled out GSM services across 18 circles,” Mr. GurinderSingh Sandhu, Head Marketing, Tata DOCOMO said “When we launched our services, we had promised our subscribers that we would bring to them the best products and services—products that will stand for innovation and a pioneering spirit, and which would offer them convenience and simplicity. Living up to that promise, we are launching the HTC Desire. This launch marks the strong relationship TATA DOCOMO enjoys with HTC and, going forward, we will continue to work together to launch more innovative mobile offerings for Indian consumers on the TATA DOCOMO platform,” he added.

HTC Sense is a user experience focused on putting people at the centre by making phones work in a more simple and natural way. This experience revolves around three fundamental principles that were developed by observing and listening to how people live and communicate.

The new HTC Sense experience continues to focus on improving your interactions with your most important people. This begins with a new HTC application and widget called Friend Stream that seamlessly aggregates all of your social communication including Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr into one organised flow of updates. This simple aggregation makes it easier than ever to focus on what friends are doing as well as to view the images and links that they share. In addition to Friend Stream, people can be organised into specific social circles, such as groups of friends, colleagues or any other way that makes sense.

The new HTC Sense experience also introduces broad improvements to applications including the browser, email client and others. In addition, the new version of HTC Sense includes a new newsreader application and widget, as well as a new seven-screen ‘Leap’ thumbnail view for quick and easy access to specific screens.

Pricing & Availability

The new HTC Desire will be available at a Market Operating Price of Rs. 28,900* at all authorized HTC resellers across the country.

* Prices may vary according to the local applicable taxes

    htc is terrible…
it releases mobile so late in india…
htc desire specs stand nowhere in front of newer androids like droid incredible/evo/desire hd/droid x etc.
only outdated mobiles are being released in india.
moreover, htc desire won’t be getiing the further android update 3.0(gingerbread).
why do they release such old outdated phones in india?…sucks !!!

We today received the HTC Desire launch press note from Tata Docomo PR also. So if their customer care does not anything about it, I am totally surprised.

    (August 18, 2010 - 6:57 pm)

I agree to Aron to some extent, I called up like 15 HTC dealer in Delhi NCR and non had any idea about the phone launch. Then I called up DOCOMO customer service and what do you expect, no clue what so ever of DOCOMO association with HTC. Called up HTC India customer care and they say the phone is not officially launched yet and should do in the next week, which is what they have been saying for the past month when ever I have called them ……

All this is doing nothing except to push a potential buyer towards Samsung Galaxy S ….. I think HTC hardly care ….

Ok, I have confirmed from HTC that the Tata Docomo thing is real. However, HTC has also confirmed that HTC India is in the midst of changing its national distributor, and so god only knows when the phone will be physically available in the market.

I still think you should edit your title as it’s misleading. The HTC Desire may have been launched somewhat officially, but it DEFINITELY is not available in the market! You should amend the title to reflect that.

As for Economic Times etc. none of them have quoted any sources either and they all seem to have posted similar articles to the one here on androidos.in.

    @Anon Mouse,

To clear your so called doubts. We at AndroidOS.in only report truthful news otherwise we clearly state that it is rumour or whatever.
Coming to the HTC Desire story, It has been officially launched in India, and it takes time to for smartphones to be available in retail market.
As you are saying that there is nothing on the Tata Docomo and HTC websites, we seriously can not do anything about that. If they are slow in updating their websites as they are in updating phones, they are the ones who will lose. We just report what is news, not create stuff on our own.

If you still do not believe us, you can go and check on other “so called trusted” websites like Economic Times, Digit and Tech2.

I think you should state your sources. This supposed Press Release is not available anywhere on HTC India or Tata’s sites. If it’s a leak, then call it a leak. But considering the fact that a) The phone does not come on HTC India or Tata’s websites, b) There are no retail pieces available in the market, c) Dealers know nothing about this supposed launch, d) There is no advertising regarding this phone…. I think the information you have provided is very suspect.

Also, please amend your title. Officially, the phone has not yet launched in India, and neither is it available for purchase through any authorized retailer. At best you have got a leaked press release in advance. At worst you are spreading misinformation and rumours.

It is coming directly from HTC.. It is Docomo’s problem if they do not have put anything on their website.
Desire is not exclusive to Tata Docomo, it is available fully unlocked although there is this offer for free data and all when you buy Desire with Docomo.

    (August 17, 2010 - 11:50 pm)

I cant see anything related to HTC Desire on DOCOMO site ????? Where is this info coming from … share the link plz…

It was AMOLED, Due to AMOLED display shortages, HTC shifted from AMOLED to S-LCD.

    (August 15, 2010 - 11:36 pm)

@deepak … nothing to jump about .. AMOLED is no better than S-LCD, yes S-AMOLED is significantly better but AMOLED and S LCD are more or less same …. google SLCD vs AMOLED ….

My last information was that it was supposed to be released in the middle of Aug – this I got from two sources.
    1. A HTC employee (sales I think )
    2. From HTC support via their website. They also said that when it is released it will be updated on their India website.

Their site does not list it yet, but I guess it should get added soon 🙂

Well, flipkart just changed the delivery period from 5-7 days to 7-9 days. I spoke to atleast 15 HTC dealers in Mumbai and none of them knew anything about the launch. I think theres some rumor going around about this. And Flipkart will probably take it off very soon considering the fact they increased the delivery period in a matter of 2 hours.

    Gaurav Shukla

    (August 15, 2010 - 9:44 am)

@Samjham86, This is not an imported HTC Desire selling, It is available officially now. There might be some online stores selling imported ones earlier.
Anyways, you can wait for the official announcement.

    (August 15, 2010 - 7:54 am)

I talked to HTC and they said if purchased from online store (which are eventually selling imported HTC Desire), warranty will not be applicable in India.
So the best thing to do is to wait for the next week for its official announcement.
