UK company Binatone has launched its first ever Android tablet in India. Named “Home Surf MID”, this Binatone offering will be sold for Rs 8,999 in India market.
Company has achieved this price point by including very basic specs, so expect no great performance from the tablet. It will come with Android 1.6, has an 8 inch resistive screen, Wi-Fi, 2GB onboard storage, 128 MB RAM and is powered by an ARM 11 667 MHz processor.
According to Sat Murthi, Executive Vice President Binatone India, “Binatone plans to invest Rs 50 crores in the next 12 months in technology, product development and marketing. Our products are specifically “Indianised” with special features like “Audio boost”, “Power saver” and “Binatone Zone”, which all have been carefully market researched and implemented to address the specific Indian needs.”
Binatone Home Surf MID can only access Internet via Wi-Fi, as it does not have a 3G option. In a country where free Wi-Fi or even Wi-Fi still has to catch up, the success of this tablet despite the lucrative price point is certainly doubtful.
This will be the third Android tablet to be available in India, two other are Infibeam Phi and Olivepad VT100.
