Dell will start shipping Froyo powered Streak tablets and update the earlier versions to Android 2.2 in the coming weeks. Dell Streak currently ships with Android 1.6, while some the units have been updated to Android 2.1 in UK.

Dell has built a new user interface called “Stage”, which will be pushed with Android 2.2 update. According to the company, Stage will make it easier for users to spot applications, movies, books and other content on the device, reported IDG News Service.

“The company will start shipping Streaks with Android 2.2 very soon, and the OS will be pushed down to existing users as an upgrade in a matter of weeks,” said Steve Felice, president of the Global Consumer, Small and Medium Business division. “We wanted to get the product to market, we weren’t ready for 2.2, so we went ahead,” Felice added.

Dell has not announced about the time-table, how it will be pushing the update to different countries, but we hope to hear it soon.

Bought the Dell Streak today (5″),and love it.Big clear screen, with “auto” rotation, makes viewing apps and web pages very easy.Dell,as has been said, should have shipped the device with Froyo. One gripe, that awful backplate!!
