Smartphone Display Technologies compared – Which one fares better?

With so many Android smartphones out there in the market, we have so many display technologies – we have AMOLED, Super AMOLED, LCD, Super LCD etc. Displaymate has compared some of so-called best display techs in their latest report. Super LCD, which is being used by HTC nowadays, due to AMOLED shortage, is missing from this report, but we still get to compare other main displays.

Motorola Droid/Milestone, Samsung Galaxy S, and Nexus One were compared along with iPhone 3GS and 4 in this report.

There was no clear cut winner but still in Android phones Motorola Milestone with Android 2.0 scores better than the pack in terms of best picture quality and accuracy, the Samsung Galaxy S by far has the lowest screen reflectance and largest Contrast for both bright and dark ambient lighting, and the best viewing angles. The report also cites that Android 2.1 was a problem with displays, so we hope to see better quality after Froyo hits these smartphones.  Check out the full report here.
