The video chat applications for Android are soon going to get another competitor. David Katz, Yahoo’s VP of Mobile for the Americas region today in an interview with Reuters commented that Yahoo is planning to launch mobile application versions of Yahoo Messenger with built-in video calling capabilities.
Currently apart from Qik, Fring is premier IM application with video chat support on Android. T-Mobile recently announced that its new 4G myTouch smartphone would come with a built-in Yahoo app for video calling, while that’s just for myTouch, but the standalone app will soon hit Android Market.
The free app will allow smartphone users to not only conduct video calls with each other, but with anyone that currently uses Yahoo Messenger for video calls on their PCs, Katz said.
Remember the normal Yahoo Messenger is already available in Android Market.
