Google Docs Android app launched in Android Market

Google has released the official Google Docs for Android app in Android Market. This native Docs app gives quick access to all your documents on the go. The app however does not replace office suites from your Android device, as it requires internet connection to work. So, you will need the third party office suites for offline editing/creating.

But, as the app has been launched, we would expect Google to soon add the offline working functionality in it.  The Docs app also allows you to upload content from your phone and open documents directly from Gmail.

On the interesting note, this app also lets you to use phone’s camera, and turn photos with text into editable Google documents with optical character recognition (OCR).

Features:

  • Designed for Android to save you time finding your docs
  • Edits to your documents appear to collaborators in seconds
  • Make quick changes to spreadsheets
  • View your documents, PDFs, images and more.
  • Upload and convert files to the Google Docs format
  • Take a photo of printed text and convert it to a Google document
  • Share docs with your phone’s contacts
