When tablets and smartphones both have got dual core options, how can e-readers be left behind? Panasonic is currently working on an e-reader that will feature a dual core processor and support Japanese e-commerce site Rakuten’s e-book store.  There is no word on the launch date or even pricing as of now, but are expected to be announced soon.

The prototype of e-reader on display at the e-Book Expo Tokyo had the following specifications; the final version might see some changes:

  • 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels
  • Dual-core CPU
  • Camera and microSDHC slot
  • WiFi
  • Android [version unknown right now]
  • Weight: 400 g
