  4. Can anyone confirm how the performance of the Desire S is after update to Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0?? I’ve heard some people mention (esp on Facebook) that this update causes the phone to slow down very much and that it consumes too much RAM. Please do reply if u have the Desire S with the update…

  5. 227 MB download! After 25mb, download was very slow, almost took 7 hours to finish the rest.

  9. @Mohan Kumar

I meant does the new Sense take up RAM when it is running? Is the performance of the phone as smooth as it is with Sense 2.1?

  10. The UI is just superb…In “Personalize” section new item “Lock Screen” has been added…I have this to “Weather”. Looks superb when the screen comes to life..This is Awesome update.

  11. Guys,
Those who have already updated their devie, please tell us if there is any problem with the Switch off button. Earlier release in other coutries had feedback that the Long press on the Power button does not show up the Power off option and so on.
Also there were some complaints about Net connectivity.
Kindly confirm if these problems still exist.
    Thank you !

  12. Yes, can someone who has updated their phone plz reply. Plz mention whether the phone still functions as fast and smoothly as it was with Sense 2.1 and whether there are any other performance related benefits or issues.

    Thanx

  13. I updated my HTC Desire S last night. I used it till now and found it smooth as it was with sense 2.1. No their isn’t any problem with the switch off button. Long pressing the power button shows up the same menu (i.e power off, airplane mode and restart as usual).

  14. Hi Brijesh,
Great news ! Thanks for the info.
By the way can you tell us what procedure did you follow for updating ?
Like factory reset first or just update then factory reset or any other steps. Pls let us know so that we can do it the same way without problems.
    Thanks a lot !

  15. @Brijesh

Thanx a lot for ur reply. Glad to hear that its still as smooth as ever! That was my main concern cuz Sense 2.1 works so well that I didnt want to sacrifice the speed just for a few visual updates.

    @Deepu

I dont think there is any need for a factory reset of the phone. Just connect to a wifi or mobile data network and check for a system update. It will give the details of the update, including the size (227 MB). I havent done it yet but I’m pretty sure it will download the files then install. I’ll be updating in a day or two and will post here.

  16. Hi Rahul,
    Thanks !

Yeah I know how to check for updates and all. And I have seen the message telling the update is available on my phone. It is just the steps that some people may have followed which makes it a flawless process (I believe so). This is because of the various number of apps we download and install. I heard it is a good practice to do a hard reset after the installation of updates on the phone so that the installation would be stable.
Usually (on my previous Moto Milestone) I do a hard reset before an update and one more after the update. Just trying to be on the safer side. It is a pain because it erases all my installed apps and data from the phone memory. So I have to install them all again after the second reset. But I guess its worth doing so.

  17. Yeah I know what u mean. Its really frustrating when data is lost during an update. I too was planning to backup my data before updating, just to be on the safe side.

  18. Alright guys,
    I have updated my phone.
I followed these steps: Backed up my contacts, messages and some other apps data.
Did a factory reset before start downloading.
After factory reset, started the download followed by installation.
When the installation completed and the phone restarted, first thing I checked was to see if long pressing the Power button would show the menu or not. It did ! Yes ! There is no such problem with my phone as reported by many.
Any way, as I used to do a factory reset after an update, I did a reset again.
Now my phone is up and running, sync-ing the contacts with my gmail account.
Hope things won’t go wrong !

  19. Hi Deepu,

How did you backed up the datas. Did you used any app or a procedure you have to backup the contacts messages and the apps data. Or you backed up in SD.

  20. I just updated my phone. I didnt take any backups, just downloaded and installed the System Update and its done! No loss of data whatsoever. Sense 3.0 is brilliant!

  22. Hi Anand,

  26. I have purchased HTC Incredible S from India and I am still having only android 2.3.3. When I switch on wifi and check for software updates it shows me that there are no updates available. Why incredible S is left our. If anyone has any idea about this please do let me know.

  27. Are we getting ICS update for Desire S..?
and how is the Music output (considering both- @loudspeaker and @headset)!! I am planning to buy this phone.

  28. Hi. I purchased an Incredible S sometime in June this year, and it is still on 2.3.3. I have not received an OTA for 2.3.5 yet.

Any news about this update from other Incredible S owners?

  29. Got updated to 2.3.5. The Sense is awesome. And reg the incredible HTC doesn’t role out any update for this model. May be you guys get it in the Q1 2012.

  30. Sahil as of now there is no news from HTC for ICS on Desire S. As for as I know ICS is more resource hungry. If you add Sense 3.0 on top of it. IT will make the Desire S more sluggish. Hence they will not roll out ICS for Desire S.
And an update on the Battery part the battery is draining like anything if the displaay is on for a long time. I think the graphics effect is eating the battery like anything. But I kinda like the graphics. I will analyse it for a week. If the battery is not enoug then I may disable and check it.

  31. Sahil forgot to add. The music output on the stock HTC headset is really good. But it may pain for a prolonged use. The loud speaker is not that loud. But it will drain your battery like anything.

If you are a music lover I will not suggest this one. you can look for the Experia range and not the X10. If you have the budget I would suggest you buy the HTC Sensation XE with the Beats audio and Headset. It will be a wonderful phone for music lovers.

  32. Yes you can. Whatever data connection you have, you can use that to update. On a precautionary note take backup of your messages and contacts to the SD card and then start download it through settings–>About Phone–>Software Update–>Check now. It will tell you an update is available and will give an option to download it through Wifi or any available data connection. Choose Wifi.

The phone will start downloading the 227.xx MB of the software into ur SD Card. Once completed it will ask for the installtion. Choose Yes. It will shutdown the phone and will restart and start installing the downloaded software. Don’t power off the phone if it struck somewhere be patient. It will wait for a long time in the white screen. Just wait. Have enough battery to do this entire process.

Update us once you did it

  33. The installation process and the first start up of the phone takes a very long time.

As far as I can recall, from the start of the installation to the apprearence of the home screen icons and widgets took about 12-15 (nerve-racking) minutes. There are atleast 2 progress bars that appear and the white screen with nothing but HTC remains for quite a while. And even after all that, the first load of Sense 3.0 and widgets (with the Loading spinner) stays spinning for an uncomfortably long time.

My past experiences updating Androids and iOSes tells me that its best not to stare at the phone waiting for the home screen to appear. There is nothing to be done anyway. Just make sure the battery is fully charged before installation, set the phone aside and go make yourself a sandwich. By the time you’re done, a beautiful Sense 3.0 should be waiting for you.

    Good luck.

  34. @ anand : I updated my phone yesterday…the process was very easy. It took an hour to download and install the update. HTC Sense 3.0 is just awesome. The weather option in lock screen is brilliant. I loved all the updates that I received. Great work HTC..

  35. i received my update this morning and the progress hangs at 2nd progress bar. It remains at 30% for like an hour already. what shud i to do?

  36. I updated my desire s . Everything s excellent in this phone . No one can beat sense 3 and friends tell me if I do a factory reset , the phone will be again reset to 2.1 and 2.3.3 or it holds with the new update . Pls temme friends .

  37. How long does it take to install? i have blank screen with lights on and htc displayed for around 2 hours ….

  38. Hi,
Can anyone tell me when can we expect an upgrade for incredible s in india? or is it not there for incredible s in india?

  39. I have updated my Desire S few weeks ago.
Now I realize that the charging is much slower than earlier. Any one else noticed such an issue ?

  40. Yes Deepu me too getting the same issue earlier from dead battery it will take 2 hrs to charge but now. It takes more than 2.5 hrs

Also if you work continuously on the phone for more than half an hour the battery drains very fast. It is not with respect to the graphics it seems. Remember the battery drain issue with apple IOS 5. they released a patch. I guess HTC will also release some patch. But there are no official information.

  41. Thanks Anand !

This is a problem now. Every morning, I leave my home with about only 85~90% charge on my phone. There is not enough time in the morning after I wake up to fully charge the phone 🙁
The fastest solution is to leave the charger ON through out the night. But I do not think it would be a good idea to charge every night for so long.

  42. Me too with 85 – 90% charge only while leaving in the morning. I donot have issue as the charge will last for the whole day thanks for my work. I cannot play or browse when in office. But some of my friends are having the usb cable for their HTC phones. So If I need I will use it to charge the phone.

Don’t leave the charger in the night. If some power surge happens then it may affect the phone or the battery. Do a dual charge both in the night and in the morning. You will also conserve the energy.

  43. Also I find it tough to use the Market App. The long press is not working for me. I have to go to the application page to update it. And I can’t share the App with others. I usually share it with gmail.

  44. I updated to the 2.3.5 on my Desire HD last month and ever since, I’ve been have a peculiar problem. Every time someone who is sysnced on the contacts list with Facebook calls, the phone invariably only sees them as a phone contact and any response to accept or reject the call leads to the call either dropping or phone freezing (respectively)… any ideas WTF is wrong with the phone and how do I correct this?
