Sony Ericsson to be rebranded as Sony in mid-2012

Sony is all set to re-brand Sony Ericsson as Sony next year as it tries to complete the buyout of Ericsson from SE. According to Times of India, a senior Sony executive stated that company will remove Ericsson from the brand name and sell phones as Sony from next year.

This Sony executive also stated that company will adopt the global of focusing only on smartphones in India and features phones are likely to make an exit. Get ready to see a full Android invasion from Sony next year in the country and worldwide.

“A lot of planning goes into getting the branding right but we will be done by middle of next year. It will also mean that the marketing and advertising investments will go up. We haven’t been as fierce as we were a few years back but we will step it up, refocus and invest more in brand-building in select markets and India is one of those markets,” Kristian Tear, executive VP & head of sales & marketing, Sony Ericsson told TOI.
