MapmyIndia to launch Android powered in-dash navigation system at AutoExpo 2012

MapmyIndia has announced that it will be launching its next-gen in-dash navigation system at AutoExpo later this week. This new navigation system runs on Android and will feature Auro, company’s 3D navigation software with house-level search. Consumers will also be able to download and install Android apps along with other usual Android goodness on this navigation system.

“At MapmyIndia, we’re constantly innovating and building new technologies to provide a rich, confident and fun travel experience – spanning navigation map data, software and hardware – and this shows in our track record of releasing path-breaking products and services.”

– Rohan Verma, Director, MapmyIndia

To remind you, MapmyIndia has previously launched an Android powered navigation tablet CarPad last year and this will be their second Android product.

We will be present at the AutoExpo to cover the launch event and bring you all the nitty-gritties of this new in-dash navigation system.

I prefer the Google Navigation any day over Map My India for the following reason (although Google Navigation is not available officially here)

Map Cost – MMI Android map Cost Rs.2490/- (in SD Card) and Rs.1990 (e-download) and Google Maps Cost nothing. But i have to buy a GPRS plan which is available for Rs.98 for 2GB free data usage which is more than enough as now google maps supports pre-cache of maps.

MMI maps updated at least yearly once for which again you have to pay, and google maps are always up to date.

Route Choice – Google navigation gives the choice of selecting 3 different routes which you can actually see before starting the trip and in MMI lacks in this department.

Search – Searching places, POI etc are very simple in google navigation and MMI you need type the correct spelling.
