Huawei, Airtel launch Ascend P1 LTE smartphone in India

Huawei today launched the Ascend P1 LTE smartphone in India in partnership with Airtel.

The Ascend P1 LTE sports a 4.3-inch capacitive touch Super AMOLED qHD display with Corning Gorilla glass atop and comes with Android 4.0 on-board. It features an 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and dual LED flash. There’s a 1.3-megapixel front camera as well.

On the inside, the smartphone packs in a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor with 1GB RAM. There’s 4GB internal storage with external expansion options of upto 32GB.

The device uses Circuit Switched Voice Fall Back technology for voice call on the underlying 3G network and claims to deliver high speed data on the LTE network.

Airtel is the first operator to launch an LTE network in the country. As of now 4G services from Airtel are available only in Kolkata and Bengaluru . But Pune is next on the list to receive 4G services soon. Hence, as far as 4G usage is concerned, the Huawei Ascend P1 LTE smartphone can be used only by Kolkata  & Bengaluru users on 4G networks right now.

Speaking at the launch, Sanjay Kapoor, CEO – India & South Asia, Bharti Airtel said, “Over the last 15 years, Airtel has been at the forefront of India’s telecom revolution and played an instrumental role in aligning the country’s technology trends with the latest standards from across the globe. We are excited to announce the launch of India’s first 4G LTE TDD multimode mobile device along with Qualcomm and Huawei.”
