NVIDIA planning to build Tegra reference devices, sell with local partners

A report originating from Russia claims that NVIDIA is planning to enter the smartphone and tablet market with self-developed devices. Company will reportedly be making reference devices based on Tegra 4 and partner with local manufacturers and sell it under their brands, similar to what Intel has been doing with Lava.

This will allow NVIDIA to quick flood the market with Tegra-powered tablets/smartphones, which would cheaper than the competition and offer better quality.

Considering the company is facing huge competition from Qualcomm, and even its latest SoC hasn’t seen many takers till now, it has decided to take the matters into its own hands.

It will most likely to be targeting developing markets, where consumers don’t rush for the brands compared to the pricing. It might partners companies like Micromax, Karbonn in India and similar companies in other markets to launch devices based on its reference designs.

Reports indicate we might see these plans in fruition in to May-June; it is most likely that NVIDIA might share some details regarding the same at Mobile World Congress.
