Reports originating from South Korean media indicate that Samsung is working on two new SoCs as well as a newer version of Exynos 5 Octa SoC (Adonis), which is present in one variant of Galaxy S 4 smartphone.
From what we could understand from Google Translation, Samsung’s Ares (codename) SoC will be packing four ARM Cortex A15 cores along with Mali GPU. There is no big.LITTLE architecture used in this processor and it will support the maximum clock rate of 2GHz. It is likely to be released as model number Exynos 5440, which was leaked in December last-year when it surfaced in Samsung’s Kernel Git page.
The other SoC being developed by Samsung’s LSI division is codenamed ‘Helen’ and will appear in 2014. Helen will be based on ARM’s Cortex A50 series using 14nm process node. It will support 64bit computing.
Apart from these brand new SoCs, Samsung is also reportedly working on a new version of Exynos 5 Octa processor with improved graphic performance and will be released in second half of the year. Other details are not clear at the moment but it is expected to be a part of Note 3 phablet.
