NDTV Gadgets and a bunch of other sites are reporting that Google might soon launch the operator billing for Google Play Store in India. Signs in the new Google Play Store version 4.0.25 reveal that Google seems to be ready to allow consumers to add their Play Store purchases in their telecom bill.
NDTV is making this assumption about the impending arrival of operator billing based on an option that is appearing in the new Play Store (that has been installed using the APKs floating around). The option reads – Set up Airtel/ Idea (or whichever telco you are using) Carrier Billing Account.
Well, it does seem to suggest that carrier billing might be coming to India, however this also seems like a default option that has been introduced in Play Store V4.0.25 and has nothing to do with the arrival of operator billing the country.
We just used an inactive SIM card in a Galaxy Nexus and then tried buying an app, and the option read – Set up No Carrier Billing account, as there was no network in the phone at that moment. So, as far as we can understand this is just a default option that looks at the network that the phone is running at that particular moment and suggests that you add carrier billing account for the same and when we had no network, it suggested that we set up “no carrier” billing account – 😛 .
We might be wrong, but we think that it is unlikely that Google has got the deals done with every single operator to allow the operator billing in Google Play as that particular option seems to suggest and then there is this ‘no carrier’ thing.

Ha Ha.. Thats funny.. I know some apps where you can put your name as network carrier then NDTV might suggest something else :p
you tried using inactive sim to see what happens, how about doing a check with dual sim phone with both active sim? what would it look like 🙂
