Asus has been releasing its Fonepad Android 3G tablet around the world with Intel Atom Z2420 Lexington processor but looks like the company decided to switch processor to release an upgraded version in Taiwan.
According to a report in Engadget Chinese, Asus has included the Medfield based 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2460 processor in Fonepad for launch in its home country. Z2460 processor was first seen in XOLO X900 and Lenovo K800 smartphones. It is slightly powerful than Z2420, but one shouldn’t expect great performance boost.
The internal storage has also been updated in this variant of Fonepad from 16GB to 32GB.
Other features of the tablet remain same – Android 4.1, 7-inch 1280x800p IPS display, 1GB of RAM, 4270 mAh battery and microSD card slot.
The upgraded tablet will be sold at NT$10,900 locally (US$360), whereas the original model is still available at NT$8,990 (US$300).
There is no word on whether the company plans to release this upgraded version elsewhere, but if it happens, we will let you know.
