Second-gen Nexus 7 coming in July for $229: Report

Nexus 7 BackGoogle’s second-generation Nexus 7 tablet was surprisingly absent from the Google I/O 2013, but a Digitimes report suggests that we might not have to wait for long. According to this publication, the next-gen Nexus 7 will be available via retail channels in July, like it had reported previously.

But, the July availability is not the important part of Digitimes’ latest report. The site claims that the 16GB version of Nexus 7 II tablet will be sold at $229, unlike the rumoured $199 pricing.

Digitimes’ supply chain sources indicate Google want to price the tablet at $229 to avoid competing directly against entry-level tablets. We have seen Asus, Acer, Hisense and other companies jumping in $100-$200 price-bracket with their budget tablets and looks like Google wants to stay away from them.

Considering the rumoured specifications, even the $229 pricing is great and it is important to note here that the original Nexus 7 16GB version was priced at $249 at launch, and the pricing was later reduced to $199 when Google discontinued 8GB version, so in a way, $229 pricing is actually less than last year.

No other details are currently available about second-generation Nexus 7 tablet and we will let you guys know as soon as something new appears.
