Skype launches redesigned Android app


Passes 100 million app installs

Skype today announced that it is releasing a new version of its official Android app in the form of version 4.0. The updated app brings Metro UI and the Skype Android version now looks very similar to the Windows Phone version of the app.Skype for Android

Skype claims that the new UI is faster and puts conversations first. “We’ve completely redesigned Skype for Android to be faster and easier – especially when you’re trying to fire off a quick message. Everything is at your fingertips. As soon as you open the app, you’ll notice the clean new look listing your recent conversations – just tap on one to catch up and reply,” Derek Snyder of Skype noted in a blog post.

It further notes that the new app isn’t just redesigned but has been built from the ground up to make more reliable.

The updated Skype for Android version 4.0 will go live later today in Google Play. You will be able to grab download from here.

In related news, Skype has also revealed that its Android app recently crossed 100 million installs worldwide.

“Just recently, we reached a major milestone. Skype for Android is now installed on over 100 million phones worldwide. And we’re so thankful – reaching such an achievement would be impossible without the support of our users, and we continue to put you and your needs at the heart of everything we do,” Snyder added in the blog post.
