In the bid to become a major player in the United States smartphone market, ZTE has launched self-branded unlocked Nubia 5 and Grand S smartphone in the country today. These phones will be available beginning October 16 at Amazon and other stores.ZTE Nubia 5

Talking about the smartphones, both ZTE Nubia 5 and Grand S feature Android 4.1, 5-inch full HD display, 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor, 13MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. The only differences are in design and battery capacity, which is 2300 mAh in the case of Nubia 5 and 1780 mAh in Grand S.

“As the software and apps available on today’s smartphones replace more and more of the other devices we use on a daily basis, the specifications for features like cameras, displays and speakers are becoming increasingly sophisticated. The Nubia 5 really pushes that trend further,” said Lixin Cheng, Chairman and CEO of ZTE USA.

“For many consumers, technology and design are inseparable. Today’s higher-end smartphones must be both physically and emotionally compelling, and the Grand S offers this winning combination of form and function,” he added.

Pricing:

  • ZTE Nubia 5: $449.99 (Only HSPA+ model on sale, compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile bands)
  • ZTE Grand S: $399.99 (Only HSPA+ model on sale, compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile bands)

Google has set the best example for Nexsus in terms of pricing. If any brand, which directly come from china and want to sustain in the market, they would have to reduce the price at-least 30 to 50 $ in the same segment.

Yes, Google does a good job at pricing their Nexus line. But, we do have to keep in mind, that Google makes most of it money off of Ads. So, the more they can get their products into people hand, the better. Google is willing to lose some money upfront on product sales and make up for it later. ZTE doesn’t have that ability. They are a hardware maker. They make their money off of their hardware.
