Airtel to launch 4G LTE for smartphones in Bangalore soon

Airtel has revealed on Twitter that it plans to release 4G LTE support for smartphones in Bangalore this month. The telecom operator has not revealed any details on how it is going to do this – Circuit Switched FallBack or voice-over LTE but we should be hearing more in the next three weeks.

As Airtel uses TD-LTE to provide 4G services, consumers will need to have a smartphone with support for TD-LTE to use the service, which are not present in the Indian market right now. It is possible that Airtel will tie-up with a smartphone vendor to provide such phones but no details are available at this point.

To remind you, Airtel had earlier released Huawei Ascend P1 smartphone with LTE support last year in Kolkata, where it initially started 4G services. The fate of that smartphone in unclear.

Blame the Military. They’re hoarding the 700, 800, 1800, 2100 & 2600 Mhz. bands in the name of ‘national security’ and nobody dares say a word because you’ll be branded callous and even a traitor (gaddar) if you happen to speak up against the diktats of the Military in this country.

Basically, the 2300 Mhz band is the only usable one remaining, which is why we have TD-LTE and not the more frequency intensive but more popular and better supported FD-LTE.

The Dept. of Telecom has tried to reason with the Dept. of Defense, but to no avail. Without the Military top brass agreeing, nothing’s gonna change. Whether it’s overpriced Defense contracts or plum postings, Defense property dealings to wireless frequencies, budgetary allocations to salaries of Defense personnel, the Defense Ministry is just a puppet in the hands of the virtual cartel run by the top men in uniform. The Defense Minister is there just to rubber stamp most things the Army top brass demands.

Sad really for a supposed democracy. 🙁

Those things cost Rupees 70,000 LOL! Yet, so many are loaded enough and dumb enough to buy those little underpowered, featureless 4 inch devices for that much.

Oh! Well. You know what they say ’bout one being born every minute, don’t you?
