Polaroid has announced that its licensee C&A Licensing has partnered with Socialmatic to launch an Android-powered instant print camera. Dubbed as Polaroid Socialmatic, it will go on sale in the fall of 2014.
This retro-style camera aims to combine the best of the old and new by bringing vintage style instant printing to a camera that can also upload the images instantly to social networks.
“We are very excited about the partnership with Socialmatic and the pending launch of this remarkable camera. Polaroid was the original social network: allowing people to instantly capture, print and share life’s moments in a way that had never been possible before. This relationship with Socialmatic allows Polaroid to come full circle and once again allow people to capture and share images in ways that are only possible with a Polaroid camera in their hands,” said Scott W. Hardy, President and CEO of Polaroid.
According to a press release issued by the company, Polaroid Socialmatic features 14MP main camera as well as a 2MP camera for selfies. It also packs Wi-Fi connectivity, 4.5-inch LCD, 4GB of internal storage, microSD card slot and Android (exact version unknown).
Polaroid Socialmatic camera will use the ink-free Zero Ink Printing technology by ZINK Imaging for printing the images. The images are printed in a 2X3 inch full-color sticker-backed ZINK photo in under a minute.
There is no word on the pricing right now.
