LG earlier today announced its new G Pro 2 smartphone. Set to be showcased at Mobile World Congress later this month, LG G Pro 2 is a successor to the company’s previously introduced LG Optimus G Pro.
Like LG G2, the phone packs buttons on the rear and comes with 5.9-inch full HD display. It also sports 2.26GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM and Android 4.4.
Other features include 3200 mAh removable battery, LTE support, 16/ 32GB of on-board storage and microSD card slot.
On the imaging front, LG G Pro 2 includes a 13MP rear camera with OIS+, which comes with software tweaks to avoid shakes in image capture and support for 120FPS HD Video Recording and Slow-Motion Editing.
According to LG, the new G Pro 2 also sports an updated version of KnockOn in the form of Knock Code, which makes the smartphone unlocking process even easier.
“Knock Code is an example of LG bringing simpler, more convenient solutions to consumers’ mobile lives. Whereas in the early years of smartphones it was a contest to see how many features could be stuffed into the phones, our researchers took a long, hard look at how consumers were really using their devices in their daily lives and included just the most useful UX features. We think customers will agree,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.
Among other software specific tweaks, the smartphone will feature Content Lock (to safeguard videos, images, memos, files using a password), Mini View (ability to shrink display to smaller size for one hand use) and Dual Browser (two browser windows alongside on one screen).
There is no word on pricing or availability, which would be revealed on a later date by the company.
Update: According to Wall Street Journal, LG G Pro 2 will go on sale later this month in South Korea, following by release in other Asian markets in March 2014.
WSJ also notes that LG is hoping that G Pro 2 will help it capture the third spot in the smartphone market.
