Is octa-core mediatek worth it as compared to other devices at this price?

At this price? Absolutely not IMO. YMMV.

The S4 and the Nexus 5 are just a few thousand rupees more expensive and you’re better off spending ~5K more to get your hands on one of those. Much faster, more sophisticated devices and comes from known brands, meaning better reliability and after-sales service and definite updates beyond Kit Kat – not to mention a variety of ROMs available all over the place including support from CM etc. for a long time to come.

However, MTK 6592 devices might make sense at around 15/16K depending on other features and the brand – especially if designed in-house. The only real competitor then will be the MotoG and to a lot many wanting a Full HD five incher on a budget, it might make sense.

Good to know. I already had doubts about this.
