Karbonn LogoKarbonn has told the Times of India that it plans to launch its first Android/ Windows Phone dual-boot smartphone in June this year. This will also be India’s first such device. Microsoft has reportedly relaxed the licensing agreements for Windows Phone, thus making such devices possible.

“Microsoft has eased the regulations and is opening up its platform for other players. We signed the agreement two days ago and will launch a range of Windows phones in about three months. The dual-OS phones will be out by June, and will target office-going professionals and ‘techies’, Karbonn Mobiles Chairman Sudhir Hasija said.

There are no details available about these smartphone(s) at this moment but we hope to hear more in the coming weeks.

Manufacturing unit in India

Hasija also revealed that Karbonn plans to set up a mobile phone manufacturing unit in India. The company currently imports all of its products from manufacturing hubs like Taiwan and Korea and hopes that local manufacturing will help with faster turnaround of new launches in the market.

Ironic that it’s the exact charge Apple fanboys level against Windows when it comes to PC’s. That OSX runs better than Windows on low end hardware.

This has always been the lame excuse of the platform(s) that cannot compete. Just because your platform of choice doesn’t give you high end hardware to choose from and cuts away features to make them somehow work on low end hardware, doesn’t somehow make it more efficient!

ANY smartphone is more power efficient than the good old desktop, but that doesn’t mean it can do everything that the desktop does. Power-efficacy has to be seen in the context of features and usability. There’s a reason low end Droids dominate (S Duos/II, MotoG etc.) inspite of the Lumia 520/525. It’s time Windows Phone fanboys realized that.
