Samsung introduces Chromebook 2 series, due in April

Samsung Chromebook 2Samsung has made its next-generation Chromebook 2 models official today. Set to be available next month, the Chromebook 2 will be released in 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch sizes.

The new Chromebooks come with Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa processor, which has been clocked at 1.9GHz in 11.6-inch model and 2.1GHz in 13.3-inch models. Other specifications of the devices include 16GB of SSD, 4GB of RAM, 720p HD webcam, and Chrome OS.

The 11.6-inch model packs a 1366x768p resolution display, however Samsung has included a full HD 1920x1080p display in 13.3-inch model. It probably is second highest resolution Chromebook model till date apart from the Google Chromebook Pixel, which packs a huge 2560×1700p display resolution.

On the design-front, Samsung has opted for the faux-leather design on the Chromebook 2, which was introduced in Galaxy Note 3 and since been used in many other smartphones.

“Since we introduced our first Chromebook in 2011, Samsung has been committed to continually developing our designs and features to meet our users’ ever-changing needs, while staying true to the core Chromebook attributes of simplicity, speed and security,” said Mike Abary, senior vice president of consumer IT product marketing at Samsung Electronics America.

“Samsung has been the top selling consumer Chromebook brand for the past three years and we’ll continue to grow our leadership position in this space with the launch of the Chromebook 2 Series,” Abary added.

According to Samsung, Chromebook 2 will go on sale in April for $319.99 (11.6-inch) and $399.99 (13.3-inch) in US. There is no word about the availability and pricing for other markets.

Samsung is bundling premium apps worth over $100 with Chromebook 2, which include Air Droid Premium, Wunderlist Pro, and LittleBridge.com.Samsung Chromebook 2Samsung Chromebook 2
