KitKat doubles its market share as Jelly Bean falls for the first time

Android Platform Distribution Numbers for April 2014Google has released the latest Android version distribution numbers and there are some interesting details inside. The total share of Android 4.4.x devices has grown to 5.3 percent, which is more than double of the KitKat’s share last month. In addition, the overall share of Jelly Bean among the active Android devices has gone down for the first time since the Jelly Bean appeared in the Android version distribution numbers 20 months ago.

Rest of the Android versions continue to fall as more and more consumers upgrade to newer devices or the manufacturer release Android updates. Gingerbread is still holding the fort and remains to be the second-biggest Android version after Jelly Bean.

Android devices with Android 4.4 or above on-board are expected to continue the upward trend in the coming months and we expect to see a bigger jump in the numbers next month as the HTC One M8, Xperia Z2 and Samsung Galaxy S5 go on sale, all of which are running on Android 4.4.2 and should sell well.

Here is a quick look at the current state of Android version distribution
