Truecaller partners with Tata Docomo in India

truecallerNo data charges for using Truecaller on Docomo network

Truecaller has partnered with Indian telecom operator Tata Docomo and as a part of this tie-up, Docomo users won’t incur any data charges for using Truecaller and get several other goodies.

This is the first such partnership by Truecaller with any Indian telecom operator but makes sense, given 30 million out of the total 55 million Truecaller users are based in India. Truecaller seems to be hoping that this move will make more Indians use its service.

In addition to no data charges, Tata Docomo users will get free access to the premium features of Truecaller for 90 days and will be able to make 30 contact requests to Truecaller every month. With these requests, Docomo users will be to get the phone number of other Truecaller users by searching their name.

To remind you, Truecaller is a caller-ID service and whenever a Truecaller user receives an incoming call, it shows the name of the caller even if it is not saved in the smartphone of the user.

Here is the full list of all the goodies that Tata Docomo users will get:

  • Ad Free Truecaller experience
  • Free data usage for the Truecaller App
  • Profile Views: Users will be able to see who’s viewed their profile
  • Monthly Contact Requests: Users will get 30 contact requests at the start of every month.

In related news, Truecaller’s Android caller-id recently got a facelift along with a couple of new features like name suggestion and Google+ integration. You can grab the app from Google Play.

Be careful when you use TrueCaller. It scans your entire address books and uploads it to their servers. I was shocked to find my profile pic from facebook showing up on true caller. And that too publically searchable on Truecaller.
