Asus ZenFone 4Asus is planning to launch its Zenfone line-up of smartphones in the Indian market next month, reports The Times of India citing unnamed sources. According to the publication, the smartphones will debut in the country on July 9 and will be the first smartphones from Asus since the debut of original Padfone in the country.

Originally announced at Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year, Asus Zenfone line-up includes three smartphones – Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6. The company has also released upgraded versions of Zenfone 4 and 5 at Computex but it is likely that we will only see the launch of upgraded Zenfone 4 in India (upgraded Zenfone 5 is unlikely as it is targeted to LTE markets). (See update at the end).

To remind you, Asus Zenfone smartphones runs on Android 4.3 (4.4 update promised, upgraded Zenfone 4 comes with KitKat) and feature dual-core Intel Atom processors, 3G support, 1GB of RAM, front and rear cameras as well as microSD card lot.

While the July launch of Zenfone smartphones seems plausible, given TOI’s past track record, we are a little sceptical and will suggest you to take this with a pinch of salt.

Update: Thanks to the import data from Zauba, we can now confirm that Asus is not releasing the upgraded Zenfone 4 or 5, which were introduced at Computex, in India. We will also be not getting the same Zenfone smartphones that were unveiled at CES this year. The company has made some changes to specifications of both the phones and you can check out the full specifications of the Indian variants below. The import information also indicates that Zenfone 4 will get a pricing similar to Moto E and Zenfone 5 will be sold for a price-tag around Moto G 8GB.
