Samsung Galaxy S5 miniAfter months of rumours and speculation, the Korean manufacturer Samsung has made the mini variant of Galaxy S5 smartphone official. Simply dubbed as Samsung Galaxy S5 mini, the phone will go on sale in Russia soon, followed by other countries. The company has not revealed the pricing at this moment.

As per a press release issued by the company, Samsung Galaxy S5 mini features a 4.5-inch HD display and is powered by 1.4GHz quad-core processor. The phone runs on Android 4.4 and comes with the usual software enhancements like ultra-power saving mode, private mode, and kids mode etc.

Among other specifications, Samsung has included the IR blaster, fingerprint scanner, heart-rate sensor, NFC (LTE version only) and 2100 mAh battery on the phone.

On the imaging front, Galaxy S5 mini packs an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and 2.1MP front shooter.  You can check out the full specifications later in the report.

As the name suggests and can be seen from the specifications, the phone is clearly a smaller version of S5 with slightly downgraded specifications. With the right pricing (which we don’t often see with Samsung), S5 mini could emerge as a decent contender in the mid-range segment.

“We always strive to develop devices that appeal to a range of consumer tastes and styles. The Galaxy S5 mini allows consumers to enjoy the iconic design and essential and useful features of the Galaxy S5 through a maximized minimalism approach.” said JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communication at Samsung Electronics.

The phone will initially be released in Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold colour options but we could more options later.
