Looks like LG might be planning to release a new Android Wear device at the upcoming IFA trade fair in Berlin. The device is tentatively named as G Watch 2 but the final branding is still unclear.
According to Korea Times, LG has partnered with sister firms like LG Chem, LG Display and LG Innotek for the upcoming smartwatch, which will reportedly include an OLED display and not an LCD.
In addition, the smartwatch is rumoured to be powered by Qualcomm processor and will include the usual Android Wear features like voice-recognition support and more.
While it is might seems surprising that LG is bringing a new Android Wear device so soon after G Watch but Samsung did the same with Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, which were released soon after the Galaxy Gear.
The Korea Times report also notes that LG plans to discuss with leading watchmakers about a possible partnership in making a smartwatch.
“LG Electronics is being approached by a lot of authoritative watchmakers for strategic collaboration. They need us and LG also wants to use their well-known brand image to boost the awareness of our smartwatches in key target markets,” noted Korea Times quoting an LG official.
No other details are available at this point but with IFA just a fortnight away, we won’t have to wait for long if LG indeed brings a new smartwatch at the fair.
