LTE version of Xiaomi Redmi Note is official, includes Snapdragon 400

Xiaomi Redmi Note LTEChinese smartphone start-up Xiaomi has introduced a 4G single-SIM variant of the company’s Redmi Note smartphone (also known as Hongmi Note). The new Redmi Note LTE keeps the same price-tag as the original Note but includes 4G LTE support.

Xiaomi has changed the processor in Redmi Note to bring the 4G support and the phone’s LTE variant will come with 1.6GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, same as Redmi 1S. Other specifications of the phone are similar to the 3G version – 5.5-inch HD IPS display, 2GB of RAM, 13MP rear camera and 3100 mAh battery.

The phone also comes with Android 4.4-based MIUI v5, 8GB of internal storage, microSD card slot and the usual set of connectivity options. In addition, the LTE version is 10 grams lighter than the original.

According to Xiaomi, the TD-LTE version of the Redmi Note LTE will go on sale in China as Hongmi Note LTE on August 12 for 999 yuan ($160), while the FDD-LTE version will be available starting August 26.

There is no word on the international release right now but we expect to see the launch of the LTE Redmi Note in the coming months in other Xiaomi countries like Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, and India.

In related news, as per the Canalys report, Xiaomi has overtaken Samsung in the Chinese market to take the spot for top smartphone maker. The company sold most number of smartphones in Q2, 2014, revealed Canalys.
