Sony has updated the support pages for four of its mid-range smartphones to reveal that neither of them is getting Android 4.4 KitKat update.
The company on Wednesday noted that Xperia M, Xperia C, Xperia SP and Xperia L will remain on their existing Android versions with no major Android updates in pipeline.
All four of these smartphones were originally released with Android 4.1 on-board and while some of these have been lucky to get to Android 4.3, others are stuck with Android 4.2. Although there isn’t much difference between Android 4.2 and Android 4.3, the users of the Android 4.2 smartphones won’t be able to use Android Wear smartwatches as it needs version 4.3 on the paired smartphones.
There is always an option to go for unofficial firmware available at websites like XDA-Developers but that is only recommended for advanced users and may not be daily-use worthy in all cases.
Sony has not revealed whether it plans to issue smaller system updates for these phones or release any fix for the OpenSSL related vulnerabilities that were discovered earlier in the year. We will let you folks know if any new details pop up.
