Amazon Fire Phone sales might have been disappointing but that has not deterred the company from introducing new hardware. The e-retailer giant on Monday introduced the new Fire TV Stick, which is a competitor to Google’s Chromecast. Set to be available on November 19, the streaming dongle is now on pre-order at the Amazon.com and carries a price-tag of $39. It will cost just $19 for the Prime members as a part of the two-day promotional pre-order offer.
Although slight expensive than the Google’s Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV Stick is packing more robust internals in the form of 8GB of internal storage, dual-core Cortex-A9 Broadcom Capri 28155 processor, 1GB of RAM, dual-band Wi-Fi and support for upto 1080p video output.
Amazon Fire TV Stick work more like Fire TV set-top box than Chromecast. It offers a user-interface similar to Amazon’s set-top box, which can be controlled using the Fire TV Stick remote app or an optional voice-enabled remote available for extra-cost ($30). The stick will also support gameplay, for which the consumers will be able to buy gamepad separately or use the remote app. As a device, the Fire TV stick is closer to a stripped down version of Fire TV than Google’s no-frills Chromecast.
