HTC has not given up on developing a smartwatch and the company is working on one, which will be launched next year. It was hoping to launch a smartwatch in 2014 but the device didn’t get ready in time.
“We had originally planned to have a wearable launch in this time frame. It ended up just not being ready,” HTC Americas head Jason Mackenzie told Re/code.
The device specifics are still unclear but the company claims that it wants to make sure that the consumers have a compelling reason to wear its smartwatch. Drew Bamford, who leads the HTC Creative Labs team responsible for wearables, reportedly stated that the current crop of wearables devices are not worthy of finding a place on anyone’s wrist. He revealed that HTC will announce its wearable strategy early next year.
In related news, HTC is hosting a press event in the US later today, where it is expected to unveil new smart devices including a smartphone. As always, we will bring you all the information as soon as HTC is done with its event.
