“Ok Google” support is coming to Chrome OS

Ok Google in Chrome OSAfter bringing the handsfree voice-search support for Android smartphones, tablets and wearables, Google is now moving to do the same with Chromebooks. The search giant is all set to add “Ok Google” hotword support to Chrome OS devices.

The company is currently testing the feature in the Dev channel version 41.0.2252.2 and the experimental support for “Ok Google” hotword can be enabled by toggling “chrome://flags/#enable-hotword-hardware” flag.

The “Ok Google” functionality will initially be limited to when the Chrome OS device screen is on and unlocked, but as we saw with Nexus devices, Google could expand the support to the locked state to select devices in future.

There is no word on when the support will reach the stable versions, but we expect it to happen some next month.
