Sony is reportedly planning to launch a 12.9-inch Android tablet next year. According to a report in Digitimes, the tablet will be released sometime in the first half of 2015.
The report adds that the tablet will enter in production shortly and is expected to be made by contract-manufacturer Pegatron Technology.
In terms of specifications, the tablet will sport 3840x2400p WQUXGA resolution display, a 8MP rear camera, and Qualcomm processor (Snapdragon 810 likely). Other specifics are unknown at this point.
Digitimes notes that Sony will target the high-end buyers with the tablet and it is likely to be priced over USD 1000.
There is no word on when we can expect the official announcement, but we expect to hear about the device at Sony’s Mobile World Congress press event. It will compete with Samsung’s super-sized Galaxy Tabs and Apple’s rumoured large-screen iPad.
To remind you, Sony currently offers only two Android tablets – Xperia Tablet Z2 and Xperia Tablet Z3.
