After attempting to drive Android users to use its Messenger as their default texting application, Facebook is now planning to release an app called ‘Phone’ for the caller ID and dialer needs of the smartphone users.
The existence of this app was revealed after some Android users accidentally received a notification to install the app in Facebook for Android. As the application is still not public, the install links didn’t work, however the notification has given us some key details.
From what we can gather from the notification text, Facebook’s Phone app will be a mix of Truecaller and Google’s Dialer apps.
“Phone is the new app that shows you info about who’s calling and automatically blocks calls from commonly blocked numbers,” read the notification.
Facebook will most likely use a crowd-sourced database to provide the information about the phone numbers and their callers.
There is no word on when the app will become public.
