If you thought Chromebooks couldn’t get any cheaper from $199, you were wrong. Google on Tuesday announced the arrival of two $149 Chromebooks from its new Chrome OS partners – Haier and HiSense.
Haier is introducing the new Haier Chromebook 11, and HiSense is releasing the HiSense Chromebook.
As you can expect given the low price-tag, Haier Chromebook 11 and HiSense Chromebook aren’t exactly filled with raw horsepower, instead they feature Rockchip RK3288 Cortex-A17 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB SSD, and 11.6-inch HD display. Other specifications of these Chromebooks include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, two USB ports, one HDMI port, stereo speakers and microSD card slot.
“To be able to showcase our hardware through Google’s well-known and respected brand is a key building block in our growth within the US. We are also excited that the Hisense Chromebook is affordable for the everyday family and easy to use,” commented Erin Magee, Director of Marketing, Hisense.
In addition to the Chromebook 11, Haier will also be offering a Chromebook 11e, which will feature a ruggedized casing and integrated carry handle. It will also come with a spill-proof keyboard and a removable battery; rest of the specifications will be same as Chromebook 11.
Haier and HiSense Chromebooks are now on pre-order in the United States via
