First Xiaomi Mi 4i flash sale in India today, only 40K units available

Mi 4i at FlipkartXiaomi is hosting the first flash sale for the Mi 4i smartphone at e-retailer Flipkart today. The sale will start at 2PM.

The company’s India head Manu Kumar Jain earlier today revealed that they have received over 350,000 registrations for the Mi 4i flash sale and there will be 40,000 units on offer.

Well, this is a surprisingly low number of units, even though India is the first market to get the phone and the company is not selling it in any other market right now, even China. So, one would expect they would bring at least a lakh units, but looks like they don’t want the first sale of their first global launch outside China to last more than a couple of seconds. After all quick sell-outs make good news items and given Indian tech media’s obsession with Xiaomi right now, we will have plenty of news outlets reporting something like “Mi 4i sold out in 2 secs” soon after the sale and the company is cleverly utilizing this obsession for their marketing.Xiaomi Mi 4i

Anyway, back to Mi 4i, the smartphone carries a price-tag of INR 12,999. It features a 5-inch full HD display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor. The phone also packs 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front shooter, dual-SIM support and 3120 mAh battery. Mi 4i runs on Android 5.0 and includes MIUI 6.

It isn’t clear how many colour options of the phone Xiaomi will be offering today’s sale, but looks like there will just be White version available and other colours will be released on a later date.

Update: Xiaomi has stated that the first flash sale is now over and lasted 15 seconds. If you have added Mi 4i to your cart on Flipkart, you have until 6PM, April 30 to complete the purchase.
