Microsoft launches Office for Android phone Preview in Google Play

Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPointOver three months after launching the stable tablet versions of its office apps like Word, PowerPoint and Excel in Google Play, Microsoft has released the preview versions of these apps for Android smartphones.

Given the preview tag, these applications are available via the beta channel in Play Store, so interested users will have to first join the Microsoft Office Preview community on Google+ and then accept the beta tester status for the respective applications and then download them. “Bringing these apps to Preview first provides you with an early look at the apps, while enabling us to gather critical user feedback helping us shape and improve the app experience on a wide range of Android phones across the world. The feedback we received from the Office for Android tablet Preview in January was critical to ensuring a high quality and consistent Office experience across Android tablet devices,” wrote Office 365 team in a blog post.

According to Microsoft, they are currently supporting smartphones powered by Android 4.4 and above. You can expect similar functionality to the tablet versions like support for viewing, creating and editing Office documents in the phone versions as well. Microsoft Word and Excel
