Canonical is getting ready to release the stable 1.0 version of its Ubuntu Touch OS on October 17, 2013. Along with launch of 1.0, the company will also be releasing stable builds of the OS meant for Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 devices, which are acting as the development devices right now.

Canonical’s massive crowdfunding campaign for Ubuntu Edge smartphone came to an end minutes ago. As anticipated by many, it did not reach its goal of raising $32 million and fell short by over $19 million.
“So ends a crazy month. We’ve broken records, we’ve been written and talked about across the world, we’ve worn out our F5 keys, and we’ve learned a lot of invaluable lessons about crowdfunding. Our bold campaign to build a visionary new device ultimately fell short, but we can take away so many positives,” Mark Shuttleworth of Canonical wrote in an update on the Indiegogo campaign page. Canonical has announced the first Ubuntu smartphone. Dubbed as Ubuntu Edge, the phone is a very interesting piece of device. Almost everything about the phone is something that you don’t normally see.
First, Canonical wants to raise $32 million (21.5 million pounds) on Indiegogo to build this smartphone. Yes, you read it right.
