Google has acquired a number of communications technology patents from contract manufacturing giant Foxconn, reports Wall Street Journal. The companies haven’t declared the number of the patents or the financial details of the deal. These patents are expected to help the search giant deal with patent trolls, who actively target Android.
This is not the first patent transaction between the companies. Google had bought some wearable technology patents from Foxconn last year. Financial details of that deal are also unknown.
Foxconn, who assembles gadgets for almost all major technology giants, has a big patent portfolio and it clearly seems to be making use of that. It today stated that it has applied for 128,400 patents and has been granted more than 64,300 patents world-wide.
